🤭🐱 So naturally, I did something very important first: I gave my cat bag its own seat. Until everyone else arrived, it was officially the most punctual, quiet, and stylish guest at the table. We had dinner at LEE PAI PAI, a restaurant known for its double-flavor mala hot pot. What made it even more interesting was that the restaurant mainly serves returning guests, so the whole experience felt less like walking into an ordinary restaurant and more like being invited into someone’s hidden kitchen. There were two men and two women at our table. And yes—there was one very familiar face among them. As for who it was… Those who know, know. What really impressed me was the owner himself. Instead of simply serving the dishes and walking away, he stood beside our table and enthusiastically explained the ingredients, the cooking methods, and how each dish was meant to be enjoyed. Our dinner suddenly felt almost ceremonial. Thin slices of white radish were arranged like flower petals, surrounded by tofu, vegetables, and colorful vegetable chips. Beside it sat another pot crowned with what can only be described as a mountain of cilantro, hiding a rich and spicy broth underneath. 🤣 For cilantro lovers, it was paradise. For cilantro haters… it was probably a psychological endurance test. Then came grilled meat, tomatoes, asparagus, tofu, and a rice bowl topped with three glorious runny eggs that clearly had no intention of being subtle. The four of us ate and talked our way through the evening. Nobody seemed desperate to impress anyone, and there was no awkward pressure to keep inventing conversation. Four people who had simply signed up for the same gathering gradually became more familiar over the steam rising from the hot pot. And the rarest miracle of all? We actually agreed on something: the food was excellent.
